“A STRONG repeat client base for the Huggins family of Woodpark Poll Merino stud, Hay, again cemented a good average for one of the largest Poll Merino ram offerings in NSW.

Of the 30 registered bidders, 26 bought 108 of 120 Poll Merino rams to a top of $4200, averaging $1931, with 15 of these buyers taking home three or more rams.

The Huggins family lifted the bar by offering 20 more rams and selling an extra 10 of them, compared to last year, while lifting their average at the same time by $310 from $1621 in 2010.

The top ram, a 19.8-micron sire, measured 3.2-micron standard deviation, with a 16.2 per cent coefficient of variation, 99.5pc comfort factor, a 107pc greasy fleece weight and 106 bodyweight percentage.”

Hamilton Sheepvention 2011

Woodpark Poll sold its five rams offered to a $4000 top in its second outing to Hamilton’s Sheepvention in early August.

The top priced ram went to longstanding Woodpark supporters Donald and Ann Bull of “Irroy”, Conargo for use in their own ram breeding program.

This is the second year Woodpark Poll has sold rams at Sheepvention, one of Australia’s largest sheep industry events drawing 25,000 visitors to see the 900 exhibits and 300 rams lotted in the major multi-vendor sale.

The Woodpark Poll rams offered represented the big, plain-bodied, good woolled rams characteristically sought after at Hamilton.

We also for the first time displayed rams at the sale, with the Autumn 2010 drop ram 10-015 in particular attracting a lot of attention.

In future we plan to have a selection of young rams which have been used for a season, and build toward presenting a 24 month old pen, at Hamilton.

Thank you to the buyers and the under bidders for your support at the Sheepvention auction this year.
